According to the Clarksville Montgomery County Industrial Development Board, some of the top employers in the community include Austin Peay State University, Agero, Akebono, Beach Oil Company, Bridgestone Metalpha and CDE Lightband. Clarksville-Montgomery County was also named by CNN Money Magazine as No. 4 among the best mid-sized metro areas to start a small business.

Montgomery County is also home to two major secondary education institutes as well as several smaller ones. Austin Peay State University is the fastest-growing university in the state with an enrollment of about 11,000 students throughout its two campuses and satellite locations. North Central Institute has been a huge part of the community since 1988, offering education in aviation maintenance and the Federal Aviation Administration Airframe and/or Powerplant license.
